Logo Styles

There are four main styles or categories of logo designs. Before I start designing a logo for you it is helpful to know if you have a preference...after all, your logo will represent your company in the blink of an eye.

Plus, this helps streamline the design process. If I design a logo that is just type and your were looking for a "beer label" type logo, you probably will not be happy! Take a look at the following examples and give me your comments (click on the titles to reveal the content).

  1. 1. Type Only Logo Designs

The majority of Fortune 500 companies have type only logo designs, and usually in one color. Why? Simplicity and cost savings. The larger the company you have, the easier it is for type to convey your complex business dealings. Often, simpler is better. Plus, single colors are less expensive to reproduce in commercial printing.Type Only Logos

  2. 2. Detached Logo Designs

A detached logo features type separate from the graphic icon. This is usually a very clean look, and makes it easy for your customers to identify your icon when it is by itself (you know the "Swoosh" is Nike without the name).Detached Logo Designs

  3. 3. Compound Logo Designs

With a compound logo design, type and graphic are combined into one cohesive unit. Compound logos can be relatively simple or more complex, covering a wide range of businesses.Compound Logo Designs

  4. 4. Complex Logo Designs

Complex logo designs can have a "wow" factor that really draw attention to your business or product. However, it takes a great deal more time to design* and more planning on your end to implement. These types of logos do not usually look good small, so it wouldn't be wise to silkscreen this style of logo on a pen for instance.
